UAE Press: Cabinet boost for citizens’ welfare

ABU DHABI, The UAE is a land of opportunities and wisdom, where the happiness of the people tops the list of priorities for the leadership. Today, the standard of living in the UAE is among the best in the world, an editorial in a local English language daily has said.

The editorial, in today’s edition of The Gulf Today, went on to say, “Surveys have repeatedly indicated that youths and others in the region and elsewhere prefer the UAE as the most-favoured destination to live or work in.

Several decisions taken by the UAE Cabinet, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday are remarkable and highlight how the country scores such high marks, with the welfare of people and industry always getting top priority.

The resolution to support the industrial sector by introducing reduced fees for electricity consumption for large, medium and small factories will undoubtedly cheer up the industrial sector and affirm the UAE’s position on the global map as an attractive investment destination that provides an integrated environment for growth and sustainability.

Industries will be delighted to note that large factories will be supported by reducing the electricity consumption charges by 29%, while the small and medium factories will have reduced fees by 10 percent to 22 percent, in addition to waiving the service connection fees for new factories.

It is said that justice delayed is justice denied. The Cabinet approval for the launch of the “one-day court” system will now provide the fastest and most efficient services to the community. The “one-day court” will go a long way in contributing to speeding up the ruling in minor criminal offences.

There is pleasant news for the expatriates too. The Cabinet’s approval of a law to provide special residency-visa privileges for expatriate retirees over the age of 55 for a period of five years, with the possibility of renewal, based on specific conditions, is a hugely positive step.

Health is another sector that deserves special attention. The Cabinet adoption of the unified national standards for public and private hospitals will push the already exemplary level of health services to a higher level.

“The UAE has persistently kept pace with global developments and never tires of springing surprises with outstanding achievements. The Cabinet initiatives add one more reason for the people to cheer up,” added the Sharjah-based daily.
