Suicide attack hits NATO convoy in Kandahar

ISLAMABAD — A suicide bomber’s car filled with explosives targeted a NATO convoy of foreign forces on Wednesday in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar, the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, has reported.

The attack was carried out by the bomber in a Datsun pick-up in the Shurandam area of Kandahar, said Provincial Police Spokesman, Zia Durrani. “There were many casualties among foreign forces but exact figures were to be revealed yet,” he said.

Quoting local media reports, the agency said that a helicopter arrived soon after the blast and the area was surrounded by foreign troops.

Taliban rebels have claimed responsibility for the bombing, while NATO forces in Afghanistan have not yet commented on the attack.

Taliban have increased their attacks across Afghanistan following the launch of their summer offensive against the foreign and Afghan security forces, KUNA concluded.
