Red Cross delegation visits WAM

ABU DHABI, Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, Executive Director of the Emirates News Agency, WAM, has discussed, with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, which was headed by Dorothea Krimitsas, Deputy Head of Public Communications at the ICRC, the means of joint cooperation between WAM and the Red Cross, especially in training and knowledge related to international humanitarian law and publishing international humanitarian responses.

Their discussion took place during a meeting at the headquarters of WAM yesterday to discuss the committee’s global activities, dealing with the humanitarian crises, and cooperating to deliver the organisation’s message through the media. Both parties agreed to research the possibility of holding training sessions, to benefit from the expertise and experiences of the committee and humanitarian organisations in the UAE.

Al Raisi highlighted WAM’s desire to strengthen its media cooperation with international humanitarian organisations, in line with the UAE’s message and pioneering role in supporting humanitarian causes, which is reflected by its leading position, for five consecutive years, in the list of countries that provide humanitarian assistance around the world.

“We aim to highlight the bilateral cooperation between local humanitarian organisations and the ICRC, which will promote and strengthen their charitable efforts,” Al Raisi said.

Krimitsas praised the UAE’s key role, humanitarian support and rapid response to calls for aid, as well as its development programmes in many countries around the world.

The meeting was also attended by Jessica Moussan El Zarif, Public Affairs and Media Relations Advisor at the ICRC, and several heads of departments of the agency.
