Ministry of Health participates in WSIS Forum 2017 in Switzerland

DUBAI — The Ministry of Health and Prevention has participated in the 2017 World Summit on the Information Society Forum, WSIS, in Switzerland, as part of a UAE delegation headed by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA.

The forum is the world’s largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community, and is co-organised by the International Telecommunication Union, ITU, UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD. This year’s forum focuses on sustainable development trends and inclusive ICT initiatives in key Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, priority areas such as health, education, gender empowerment, the environment, infrastructure and innovation.

The delegation of the Ministry of Health and Prevention included Ali Al-Ajmi, Director of Information Technology Department, and Mubaraka Mubarak Ibrahim, Director of Health Information Systems.

During the event, the UAE delegation briefed the Secretary-General of the ITU on the UAE’s vision in the ICT sector, as well as participated in a forum session where Ms. Ibrahim discussed the progress made at the ministry and its ICT development strategies. She said that UAE Vision 2021 aims to achieve a healthcare system that meets the highest of international standards, highlighting the various achievements that have contributed to the country’s healthcare sector and sustainable development agenda.

Al-Ajmi spoke about the National Medical Register, an initiative under the government innovation lab, which was launched by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to improve the health care system across the UAE. He added the register is in line with the Ministry’s strategy and Vision 2021, while emphasising the importance of the modern integrated platform to achieve patient safety and comprehensive health coverage.
