Minister of Infrastructure Development praises Indian businessman as first participant of ‘Cities of Giving’ initiative

DUBAI — Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, praised the initiative of Indian businessman Rajen A. Kilachand, owner of Dodsal Engineering and Construction, as the first to participate in the “Cities of Giving” initiative by contributing to building 10 houses in the Al Quoz area, and two houses in the Al Quoz Residential Complex in Dubai amounting to AED9 million.

The announcement came during a press conference organised by the Programme at its headquarters in Dubai to announce the Cities of Giving initiative, one of the programme’s efforts for the #Year of Giving, to enhance the lives of citizens by providing homes funded by the private sector.

Dr. Al Nuaimi highlighted that the programme aims, through this initiative, to promote social responsibility in the UAE, especially with regards to involving the private sector in supporting community initiatives as a major partner in the development process for housing and infrastructure.

He said that community coherence requires the active role of businesspeople and private sector institutions in contributing to giving, charity and community participation in the country.

The Minister added that such contributions prove the harmony in the UAE community between government and businesspeople, considering the facilitations provided by the country for business and economic growth. He highlighted that these houses are being built according to high specifications, which comply with the requirements of residential project sustainability, for the programme to achieve the comprehensive vision of the national agenda regarding community coherence, implementing sustainability standards and guaranteeing participation, to achieve the vision and aspirations of the UAE government.

Kilachand said, “Our actions must be stronger than our words. I am lucky to settle in the UAE, which occupies a prominent position among the countries of the world, due to its leadership. Today, I am paying back by giving to the less fortunate.”

He highlighted the fact that the initiative of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to make 2017 the Year of Giving, reminds us that we live to support less fortunate people and show mercy and respect for their dignity.
