‘Jumeirah Project’ reflects creative spirit of Dubai

DUBAI, On the occasion of the launch of the ‘Jumeirah Project’ by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, directors of the five Dubai Government entities involved in the execution and implementation of the project initiated by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), expressed their happiness in being a key stakeholder in the initiative.

GDMO Director General Mona Ghanem Al Marri said that the project is part of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed’s directives to transform Dubai into an open-air museum.

She said that the project reflects the creative spirit of Dubai. She praised the collaboration between the various stakeholders involved in the project.

“We will work closely with the various partners to implement this unique project. We have a proven track record of collaborating with multiple stakeholders to execute several projects like the Dubai Street Museum. The Project will be executed in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Municipality, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Dubai Sports Council,” Al Marri said. “The Jumeirah community will also be part of the project and we welcome their suggestions and ideas. Some of the houses of residents in the area will serve as open-air canvases for murals.”

Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA HE Mattar Al Tayer commended the idea behind the project. Given the prominence of Jumeirah, its varied tourist attractions and its status as a destination for tourists from across the world, the Project will add considerable value to Dubai’s offerings. He also said that RTA seeks to promote innovation and opportunities to transform promising ideas into reality. It is participating in various initiatives and projects that are helping Dubai make a leap towards the future through projects like the Flying Taxi and Dubai Metro.

Director General of Dubai Municipality, Dawood Abdulrahman Al Hajiri, commended the project saying it integrates a range of creative, cultural and sports events, which highlight the vibrant character of Jumeirah. “Jumeirah is one of the key areas where Dubai Municipality seeks to showcase Dubai’s modern urban character. We are currently working on cooperating with various entities in Dubai including Brand Dubai to achieve our objectives,” Al Hajiri said.

Meanwhile, CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Director General of Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing Helal Saeed Al Marri, said the project is being executed in a part of the city that is highly visited by tourists. He expressed his happiness at the participation of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in the project. Dubai Tourism works to ensure that all its projects and initiatives have a creative and innovative dimension, he said.

Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council Saeed Mohammed Hareb said the project is in line with the Council’s efforts to organise initiatives to foster a healthy and modern lifestyle in the Dubai community. The Council, he said, will contribute with a number of sport activities throughout the year, especially through events that encourage people to adopt a healthy and fitness-oriented lifestyle.

The Jumeirah Project will see the implementation of 30 artistic projects in 30 locations along Jumeirah Road in partnership with 30 Emirati, Arab and international artists. The themes of the artworks include the links between the city’s past and present, and Dubai’s distinctive character that combines modernity with its strong heritage. As part of the Project, a number of unique artworks will be created at bus stations along Jumeirah Road.

Several events including the ‘Dubai Fitness Challenge’ and the ‘Gov Games’ will be held under the umbrella of the ‘Jumeirah Project’. Sports events to be held as part of the Project include a marathon, a swimming competition, a triathlon, children’s competitions, a yoga event and a beach football tournament. The Project will also feature a traditional Dhow competition, boat races and a food festival.

Jumeirah Road is home to a number of iconic tourist landmarks like the Burj Al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah, and the Wild Wadi Water Park.
