SHARJAH, 13th March, 2017 (WAM) — Marking World Kidney Day, members from the Friends of Kidney Patients Society visited Al Qassimi Hospital and Al Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah. As a key health advocate under the Supreme Council of Family Affairs, the delegation visited the patients at both hospitals and checked the dialysis equipment that the Association previously donated.

The visiting delegation was headed by Mariam Khalfan bin Dakheen, Director of the Friends of Kidney Patients Society; and was received by Amna Ali Karam, Director of Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah and a number of the medical and administrative staff. At Al Qassimi Hospital, the delegation was received by Obaid Al Naboudah, Head of the Customer Happiness Department; Dr. Suad Sajwani, Head of Peritoneal Dialysis Unit at the hospital, as well as a number of the administrative staff.

Commenting on the visits, Mariam Khalfan bin Dakheen said: “Celebrating the World Kidney Day, we provided modern dialysis equipment to both hospitals, to avail this vital procedure to patients who cannot visit other hospitals. Some patients had real difficulty in getting the weekly treatment as they suffered other diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes, or hypertension.”

Amna Ali Karam, Director of Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah also extended thanks to the Friends of Kidney Patients Society for providing the modern equipment for the benefit of the patients and their families, in order to address the increasing numbers of kidney failure patients.

On the other hand, Dr. Suad Sajwani noted that the Nephrology Department at Al Qassimi Hospitalhosts the largest Dialysis Unit under the Ministry of Health and Prevention with 170 patients receiving hemodialysis and 20 patients receiving peritoneal dialysis.

Observed on 9th March every year, World Kidney Day is a global awareness campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of kidneys.

The Friends of Kidney Patients Society was established in 2006 and has since provided dozens of dialysis devices, medical beds, electrocardiography, blood pressure and oxygen saturation meters, ultrasound scanning devices, and vital functions measurement devices. The Society’s services cover many hospitals in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates in order to help the widest range of patients and improve health care standards.
