Friends of Diabetes Association in Sharjah donate AED 200,000 to Emirates Red Crescent

SHARJAH — The Friends of Diabetes Association of the Health Education Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, has donated AED 200,000 to support the diabetics charity clinic located at the headquarters of Emirates Red Crescent- Sharjah.

This was announced during a meeting held at the headquarters of the association at the Health Education Department.

The meeting was attended by Head of Friends for Diabetes Association Khawla Taher Al Hajj, endocrinologist and deputy head of the association Dr. Elham Al Amiri, Association Coordinator Reem Fares, as well as many volunteers.

Officials from Emirates Red Crescent were also present, including Abdulla Al Muhairi, Emirates Red Crescent- Sharjah Director; Amr Obeid Al Naqbi, Head of the Support Services Division; Sheikha Ali Al Suwaidi, head of the local aids department and head of the support services division at the Walid Shaaban Medical Centre.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed expanding joint cooperation in volunteering to assist diabetics in Sharjah. They also reviewed equipping the diabetic clinic at the society with medical equipment, insulin pens, needles, as well as free test strips for early diagnosis.

Discussions also included the presentation of the cumulative diabetic periodical test service every three months, as well as the large amount of required insulin to treat patients who receive check-ups at the Red Crescent pharmacy in Sharjah.

Both sides recommended expanding diabetes prevention programmes by carrying out joint educational activities and campaigns.

They also agreed on the importance of working to find permanent donors, doctors, nurses and nutritionists who might volunteer to work at the Emirates Red Crescent clinic to provide support for diabetics with medical consultations, treatments and medicines.
