Fikra Labs finalists meet with Under-Secretary of Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, Before embarking on their four-week incubation programme, the 12 finalist of the Fikra Labs, an acceleration programme for the travel and tourism industries in Abu Dhabi, met with Saif Saeed Ghobash, Under-Secretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi, DCT Abu Dhabi, to discuss the issues of how technology is disrupting the tourism industry, and how to harness its power to promote Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector.

The meeting also focussed on assessing the experience of the finalists of the Fikra Labs.

The 12 finalists were selected from 31 start-ups, after undergoing a two-day mini boot camp that was designed as an intensive workshop to help them develop their business ideas and become pitch-ready. The finalists were selected by a screening committee to join the four-week incubation programme, for successfully highlighting their understanding of their business challenges.

The finalists will now participate in their four-week incubation period, where a partner will train and guide three start-ups, to address various challenges while focussing on enhancing their experience, starting from the moment they book their tickets to Abu Dhabi.

The programme’s partners will search for ideas to tackle the challenges facing the finalists, to support Abu Dhabi’s credentials as a leading centre of world-class tourism.

The Fikra Labs is an initiative, led by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, DCT Abu Dhabi, the Etihad Aviation Group and Miral, to help start-ups in the Middle East and North Africa create innovative solutions to address the regional challenges facing the tourism and travel industries.
