Dubai Customs honours winners of IPR Awards at CIFF 2017

DUBAI — “Piracy Full Stop” won the best international movie at the Children’s International Film Festival, CIFF 2017, which concluded at the Higher Technology College in Dubai Academic City.

Yousef Ozair Mubarak, Director of the Intellectual Property Rights, IPR, Department at Dubai Customs, awarded the winners in the presence of Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs. Winchester School’s “Ctrl+c NOT v” and Pristine School’s “One for all” won the best local movies award. The American School of Creative Science in Sharjah received the best animation award for its “FAKE” animation movie, and the Emirates University came second with its “MYAR” animation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mahboob Musabih said, “We congratulate the award winners at CIFF. We are happy to have sponsored this festival, which is a great activity to encourage children to innovate and think out of the box. We are following the directives of our wise leadership of nurturing and supporting innovation, especially in the younger generations who will lead the future.”

Speaking about this year’s theme, Ozair Mubarak said, “We raise awareness on the protection of IPR among society members of all sectors and age categories. Movies are one of the ways to reach out to a greater number of people. This is why Dubai Customs chose IPR to be the focal point and the main theme of the awards this year.”

The IPR Department’s Dubai Customs IPR Award, launched in 2007, raises awareness on the perils of counterfeiting. The award has helped engage school and college students in the mission of protecting society from fake products.
