DUBAI, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) emphasised its global leading position in creativity, innovation, and corporate excellence by winning the gold award for Best Deployments in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for changing innovation culture at the USA Golden Bridge Awards 2018, that took place in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, USA. DEWA won the award for its Afkari platform which was launched in 2015 for employees to share their innovative ideas and foster a culture of innovation.

The Afkari platform is the first such creativity programme in Dubai Government, where employees are actively encouraged to vote and comment on employee ideas, and collaborate and share best practices.

DEWA is the first organisation in the region to use this programme, for employees to collaborate and vote on the best ideas, similar to social media websites. Since its launch three years ago, Afkari has been a central repository for the Innovation department, ensuring DEWA’s consistent development and improvement, achieving its development plans, and enhancing communication amongst all employees.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed his pleasure with this achievement which represents further global recognition of DEWA’s efforts in establishing a culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence, and promoting government work.

“DEWA has launched the Afkari platform to promote creativity and innovation, and encourage staff to contribute to improving DEWA’s services and performance. We have elevated the importance of innovation in our strategic plan to 40%, added objectives that focus on future, innovation, and the happiness of all stakeholders, and institutionalised innovation in all divisions and operational processes. DEWA’s employee satisfaction on the internal innovation system reached 89% in 2017. The ideas that have been implemented through the Afkari platform have saved more than AED 814 million since its launch in 2015,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
