Development of IAEA laboratories provides technical support to Member States

VIENNA, The International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, has opened the final phase of its project to upgrade and expand the Agency’s laboratories, which helps Member States conduct scientific tests, meet technical challenges in various fields, and build research capabilities “for the peaceful uses of nuclear technology,” said the IAEA in a statement.

The inauguration of the new building is a “major achievement”, said Yukiya Amano, Director-General of the IAEA. He stressed that the modernisation of the IAEA laboratories, which began in 2014, with the construction of new buildings and upgrade of equipment and infrastructure would “significantly improve the services that the Agency can provide to Members States,” and helps build recognition of the importance of peaceful nuclear technology.

Amano also thanked the Member States that contributed to the project of developing the laboratories.
