Canada’s engagement: Minister Bibeau to visit Africa

The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and LaFrancophonie, today announced that she will visit three African countries in late August.

The Minister will meet with the heads of state and government, as well as partners in the field, and will announce projects related to education, health and good governance. She will also have the opportunity to speak with women’s groups involved in their communities concerning progress in issues related to the rights and health of women and girls.

While in Africa, the Minister will visit development projects funded by Canada and implemented in the field by local and Canadian partners. These projects help strengthen the empowerment of women, give young people access to quality education and assist farmers in coping with threats to food security posed by climate change.

This will be Minister Bibeau’s first official trip to Africa.

Canada plans to assist Africa in facing the serious challenges associated with population explosion, climate change and security. This mission will include discussions on the importance of strengthening women’s empowerment, as well as on education, health, agriculture and jobs.rdquo;
