ABU DHABI, In the first quarter of 2019, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority completed a survey of 4.84 million date palm trees in the emirate of Abu Dhabi with the aim of detecting insect pest-infecting trees and providing control treatment.

Thamer Al Qasemi, the spokesperson of the authority, said the survey, which covered 17,114 farms, is part of the pre-emptive services to fight pests infecting trees in the emirate including the red palm weevil.

He stated that integrated pest control operations had registered significant successes throughout the year so as to protect the trees and increase productivity.

He added that agricultural experts conduct regular inspection visits to farms and apply pest control techniques.
