‘Emarat’ names new Director-General

ABU DHABI, Emirates General Petroleum Corporation, ‘Emarat’, has announced the appointment of Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi as its new Director-General.

Al Shamsi has a long and distinguished career spanning three decades in exploration and production sector and its relations with the national and international oil companies, said an Emarat statement issued on Thursday. He has held several positions in this sector, including his latest position as CEO of Yasat Petroleum Operations, one of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, Group companies; Director of Strategy and Coordination Department in ADNOC; and Chairman of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference, ADIPEC.

Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs and Chairman of Emarat, affirmed the company’s commitment to work towards achieving its vision as a leading oil corporation in the Gulf region, and providing the best value for its customers by improving the quality of its products and services.

“Emarat has made significant achievements in its corporate career, pursuing a policy of expanding and diversifying its investment base, products and services in collaboration with its strategic partners, achieving the highest levels of success and establishing a leading corporate reputation both locally and regionally,” he said.

The new executive leadership will help the company in its important development and expansion phase to achieve more excellence and work towards contributing to the achievement of Emarat 2021 vision, Al Tayer added.

Speaking about Al Shamsi’s predecessor, Adel Khalifa Al Shaer, Al Tayer said the former Director-General had pivotally contributed for over eight years to achieve specific accomplishments of the corporation.

In his comments, Al Shamsi said, “I will work with the Emarat team to achieve more successes, strengthen the leading position of the corporation and expand its customer base in the sectors of retail, natural gas, commercial fuel, liquefied gas, lubricants and jet fuel. This will be in line with the corporation’s accomplishments to acquire greater development prospects,” he said.

Emarat was established in 1980 by the Government of the United Arab Emirates according to Federal Law No. 16 of 1980. It is one of the leading corporations in the marketing and distribution of petroleum products.

7 holidaymakers killed, 10 wounded in road crash in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Bangladesh, At least seven people were killed when a bus carrying holidaymakers slammed into a roadside tree in eastern Bangladesh on Thursday, the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, DPA, has quoted police as saying.

Five people died at the scene, in Lemua of Feni district on the Dhaka-Chattagram highway, nearly 150 kilometres south-east of Dhaka, officer Shahjahan Khan said, adding that the bus had veered off the road.

Two others died at a nearby health facility, said Abu Taher Patwari, a medical officer at Feni General Hospital.

Ten critically wounded passengers have been moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for improved medical care, he added.

More than 60 people from Dhaka’s Mirpur neighbourhood had rented two buses to travel to the south-eastern beach town of Cox’s Bazar as Muslims celebrate the Eid Al Adha holiday, Khan said.

One of the two buses crashed on the way while the other reached its destination, the officer said.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.

UAE leaders congratulate South Korean President on Liberation Day

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a congratulatory message to South Korean President Moon Jae-in on the occasion of National Liberation Day, which is observed on 15th August.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also sent similar messages to the Korean President.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also dispatched similar messages to Lee Nak-yeon, Prime Minister of South Korea, on the occasion.

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a congratulatory message to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of his country’s Independence Day, which is celebrated on 15th August.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also sent similar messages to President Kovind.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan dispatched similar messages to Narendra Modi, Indian Prime Minister, on the occasion.
