Hitachi Vantara Delivers Digital Evidence Management To Enable More Effective Policing

Allows Law Enforcement To Accelerate Investigations to Completion Through Better Use and Management of Digital Evidence

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Hitachi Vantara, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), today announced the availability of Hitachi Digital Evidence Management (HDEM), an integrated solution to address the challenges of digital evidence management in modern policing.

The exponential increase of digital evidence from an ever-greater number of sources has challenged law enforcement with the complex and time-consuming task of identifying and organizing digital evidence needed for investigation and prosecution. Law enforcement officials are challenged by compliance policies and procedures such as evidence disclosure rules. They are also hampered by antiquated manual processes that can introduce delays and mistakes from the initial collection of evidence within existing pools of information to its ongoing management throughout an investigation. These growing challenges can limit the ability of law enforcement to manage the collected evidence efficiently and ensure that it is available when required.

The HDEM solution provides an opportunity for law enforcement to meet these challenges and set new standards for using evidence in today’s digital world.

Hitachi Digital Evidence Management is highly scalable, permitting the collection of data from any digital source so it can be placed in context for an investigation or prosecution. This includes body-worn and car video cameras, mobile phones, documents, closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other digital information sources. Using HDEM, law enforcement can identify and associate evidence with a particular case, and secure, analyze, clip, redact and handle it according to the guidelines of police information management in the local jurisdiction. Measures to enable GDPR compliance are built into the application together with security and user provisioning to assist law enforcement in building criminal cases and gaining further intelligence from the collected digital evidence.

By automating the discovery, processing, analysis, organization, storage and sharing of information that is retrieved from multiple evidential sources, HDEM is data-agnostic, meaning that it even works with dissimilar data formats from multiple sources. This capability allows law enforcement to paint a comprehensive and integrated evidential picture and supports prosecution efforts, helping law enforcement lead criminal cases to more efficient and effective closure.

HDEM also manages evidential continuity and integrity issues to prevent challenges to its validity. The solution allows seamless delivery of evidence packages to the prosecuting authorities for both pre-charging decisions and case progression. The core HDEM platform ingests data from the repositories of existing endpoint devices such as body-worn video and has web portals available for the public and partners to upload possible evidence directly into the solution. Additional modules are available, including live facial matching for greater insight from the collected digital evidence.

Hitachi Digital Evidence Management is available initially for police and law enforcement agencies within Abu Dhabi, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Dubai, India, Singapore, Sweden and the United Kingdom. HDEM will be expanded into other countries and localized for additional use cases in the future. HDEM is available on a price-per-officer subscription basis.

“We are collecting more and more information from digital sources every day in separate silos and are faced with the challenges of scale, privacy and security,” says Mike Barton, chief constable, Durham Constabulary. “Hitachi Digital Evidence Management delivers a scalable evidence platform that will help us protect our citizens’ privacy while allowing us to prevent crime and apprehend and prosecute criminals more effectively. The people of County Durham and Darlington can be confident that we will deploy innovation in policing that makes our communities safer by using Hitachi Digital Evidence Management.”

CRRC unveils three new locomotives, metro car and a high-speed train at InnoTrans 2018

“Over the past several years, CRRC has aimed to position itself as an ‘integrated rail transit solutions provider’ and ‘creator of value’ to its global customers, transforming from product providers to system solution creators,” said Sun Yongcai, President of CRRC. “Our exhibition at the world-renowned InnoTrans trade fair, our innovative new products, and cost-effective solutions all reflect these two concepts.” CRRC is ranked the largest railway equipment suppliers by turnover in 2017 by SCI verkehr.

Under these concepts the company presented their innovations with three key areas in mind gaining time, reducing costs, intelligence and integrating for the future.

Gaining Time

Alongside the two new locomotives and metro car presented at the outdoor exhibition center the company also launched a series of new solutions for modern growing cities, including a highly versatile high-speed intercity train and cargo car that can reach speeds of 250km/h. The new intercity train offers the option of ease of flexibility during passenger low/high seasons, while the time-saving new freight car can cut down on supply chain costs with a high-volume transportation solution for fresh-food or first-aid materials for disaster relief.

Reducing Costs

With optimization in mind, the company also unveiled, PHM, a sensory “healthcare system” for trains. The forward-thinking new system provides operators with real-time diagnostics and predictions regarding the health of their fleet of trains; improving decision-making and reducing costs through precision diagnosis.

By linking up various modes of transport, such as road, air, rail, and sea to one integrated system the company aims to enhance the logistics industry, reduce costs and raise efficiency.

“CRRC aims to build a respected international company, with solutions and value at its core. To date, we have worked with partners across the globe to improve the rail transportation industry, opening over thirteen R&D centers around the world, including here in Germany with the jointly built Sino-German Rail Transit Technology Centre with Dresden university,” said Cao Gangcai, the spokesman of CRRC. Adding, “At InnoTrans 2018, we hope to show our achievements but also to highlight the opportunities of working together to create value for the industry and rail passengers.”
