UAE and Canadian legislatures discuss promoting relations

ABU DHABI, — Top officials from the UAE Federal National Council (FNC) and a Canadian parliamentary delegation have met to discuss ways of promoting parliamentary co-operation, through exchanging visits, establishing a parliamentary friendship group and boosting consultation and co-ordination on prioritised issues of common concern.

Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the FNC, and Percy E. Downe, Member of the Senate of Canada and chairman of the UAE-Canadian Friendship Committee, noted the growing political, economic, cultural and educational relations between the two countries.

Al Qubaisi highlighted the role of the FNC in the overall development taking place in the UAE.

She also highlighted the joint work of the Emirati legislature and the government to achieve the common goal of fulfilling the ambitions of the people.

Other topics that were highlighted by Al Qubaisi include the role of the UAE in combating terrorism, the situation in Yemen, and the need for combining international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism while dissociating Islam from acts of extremism that are rejected by Islam itself.

Downe spoke about the importance of relations with the UAE, and the need to bolster co-operation in various spheres.
