Sharjah officially launches “Childhood Protection Network” to provide training for childcare professionals

SHARJAH, — As part of its overall development strategy, and its efforts to provide a safe life, excellent childcare, and to protect children’s rights, the Emirate of Sharjah launched the Sharjah Childhood Protection Network on Tuesday, March 28th. The network aims to provide training and development for childcare professionals and to be the first network dedicated to childhood protection in the Arab World by 2019.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in the presence of members of the network’s Board of Trustees, representatives from children’s institutions and members of the media.

The Sharjah Childhood Protection Network was established under the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim to promote collaboration and coordination among all child-protection related institutions in the Emirate, build the capacity of professionals and volunteers, exchange professional experience, and enhance the performance of childhood institutions.

Speaking at the press conference, Shaikha Mohamed Belhoul Al Mheiri, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, said, “Thanks to the vision and guidance of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, and the support of his wife, Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, the Emirate of Sharjah continues its efforts with regard to protecting children’s rights and improving the quality of their lives. The launch of the Sharjah Childhood Protection Network is a significant development that will further enable Sharjah to place the care and protection of children as a top priority and matter of importance for future generations.”

The vision behind establishing the network was inspired by the values of the UAE leadership, originating from tolerance, peace and various human experiences.

Ibrahim Mohamed Al Hosani, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Childhood Protection Network, said, “Although training is at the heart of the network, it is not everything that we will provide. We will have various committees such as the Social Committee dedicated to monitoring the negative phenomena affecting children and keeping the concerned parties informed. We will have the Scientific Committee dedicated to preparing scientific materials and research on child protection. We will have an Events Committee dedicated to developing activities and programmes related to childcare in the Emirate of Sharjah”.

Faris Mohammed Buafra, Member of the Board of Trustees, said, “The Sharjah Childhood Protection Network is an added value to the Emirate of Sharjah. It will provide training and development to childhood institutions, and will work closely with them to identify and evaluate their needs and launch the necessary initiatives”.

He added, “Children are the cornerstone of societies. Therefore, we must provide them with a safe environment and protect their rights as endorsed by heavenly religions and international laws”.

“We will hold gatherings, launch professional training programmes, build a database for professionals and conduct awareness campaigns to educate the community about children’s rights”, Buafra concluded.
