Nahyan honours winners of UAE International Genetic Prevention Disorders Award

ABU DHABI, 3rd March, 2017 (WAM) — Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and Patron of the UAE Genetic Diseases Association, has honoured specialist doctors and winners of the third edition of the UAE International Genetic Disorders Award 2016 on Friday.

Sheikh Nahyan stressed during the honorary ceremony held at his palace to observe International Rare Disease Day, that the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan “is keen on preserving the health of its citizens and residents alike, as well as recruitment of doctors to treat various diseases.”

He also commended the specialists for their role in handling the challenges posed by rare diseases.

The UAE Genetic Diseases Association aims to curb the spread of genetic disorders, as well as the complications resulting from them, through nationwide awareness and preventive programmes. This includes field surveys based on successful research and expert exchange, Sheikh Nahyan said.

Dr. Mariam Mattar, founder and chairperson of the association, thanked Sheikh Nahyan for sponsoring the activities of the association. She noted that the association strives to spread preventive awareness to curb the spread of rare diseases.
