Majid Al Futtaim starts work on giant Carrefour facility in Dubai

DUBAI — Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, on Sunday held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of its new Carrefour regional distribution centre at the National Industries Park, NIP, in Dubai.

The ceremony was attended by Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO of Jafza and Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World – UAE Region, Shehab Sultan Mesmar, Senior Vice President of Administrative Services, Ayoub Al Mulla, Vice President of Sales, Eric Legros, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, Marco Antonios, Senior Vice President of OmniChannels Solutions and Supply Chain, Miguel Povedano, Executive Regional Director of Carrefour UAE at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, and Younis Al Mulla, Senior Vice President of Development and Government Affairs at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

Speaking on the occasion, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, the parent company of the NIP, said, “The NIP has become an ideal destination for both international and national companies thanks to the benefits and incentives it offers to its customers and due to its strategic location adjacent to the Al Maktoum International Airport and the Jebel Ali Port. This allows companies to serve the local market and reach regional and international destinations in record time.”

Younis Al Mulla of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, added, “The facility is four times the size of Carrefour’s largest distribution centre in the region. The centre will also feature advanced warehousing, storage and logistics technologies. The distribution centre is expected to save over 50 percent in energy per cubic metre, in line with Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability goals for energy efficiency, as well as it’s continuous efforts to ‘Create Great Moments for Everyone, Everyday.'”

The multi-temperature storage at the new distribution centre is designed to meet the storage needs of different food types and warehousing needs of non-food goods. It has a total storage capacity of over 400 million units, to support Carrefour’s brick and mortar stores, in addition to the multi-channel business of Carrefour.
