Knowledge Without Borders launches My Home Library photo contest on social media

SHARJAH, Knowledge without Borders, KwB, a Sharjah-based cultural initiative that provided more than two million free books to the residents of the emirate through its “Home Library” project, has now launched a photography contest on social media where two winners are given iPads every day till 1st February.

In the contest called “My Home Library,” entrants will have to capture creative snapshots of the home library collections they received from KwB, share those images on Instagram or Twitter and link them to KwB’s accounts using the hashtag (#???????).

Commenting on the new initiative, Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KwB, said, “Distributing books as part of the Home Library project is only the initial phase. At KwB, we know it is just not enough to provide books. We must follow up and ensure there is an ongoing interaction with people and that they are getting enjoyment, education and entertainment.

“My Home Library contest will be followed by other activities and events that will enrich the cultural sphere and promote Sharjah as the region’s capital of culture. The competition is instrumental in promoting reading as a daily activity among families and individuals of all ages,” he added.

Highlighting Sharjah’s focus on investing and building a knowledge-based society, the Home Library project distributed 42,366 home library collections, each comprising 50 books, with the overall number of the books distributed exceeding two million.

KwB was launched by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and is supervised by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of its Organising Committee.

The Home Library is one of the most significant projects launched by KwB and aims to establish reading as a noble habit in every household in the UAE. This includes equipping the home libraries with the best reading materials across a variety of genres suitable for the entire family. The initiative is in sync with Sharjah’s development plans, which are aimed at building a better future for individuals and communities.
