Israeli suspends UNESCO activities after vote on Jerusalem resolution

GAZA, — Israel suspended co-operation with UNESCO on Friday after the United Nations cultural organisation adopted a draft resolution on occupied Jerusalem.

The resolution adopted at the committee stage on Thursday referred to “Occupied Palestine” and the need to “safeguard the Palestinian cultural heritage and the distinctive character of east Jerusalem”.

The Palestinian-Jordanian draft resolution was adopted by 24 votes to six with 26 abstentions.
