FNC Parliamentary Division to participate in IPU Committee on Middle East Questions meeting on water issues

ABU DHABI — The Federal National Council, FNC, Parliamentary Division will participate in a meeting of the Committee on Middle East Questions, one of the permanent committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, in Geneva, to discuss ways of promoting the role of parliaments in implementing sustainable development goals related to water issues.

The FNC Parliamentary Division delegation will be headed by Ali Jassim, Member of the FNC and Chairman of the IPU Group.

A second roundtable seminar will be held to discuss ways of promoting the role of parliaments in implementing sustainable development goals related to water on an international and Arab level, as well as the consequences of not implementing such sustainable development goals, the current international situation of water issues, and suggestions on how to promote the role of parliamentarians in implementing these goals.

Mr. Jassim said that the second roundtable meeting on water issues will discuss the UAE’s future vision and initiatives related to the scarcity of water and its future effects, which will affect countries that suffer from a lack of water resources, according to the relevant international framework and currently applied procedures.

He added that the FNC Parliamentary Division will present a statement on the role of parliaments in this issue, as well as recommendations and strategies that can contribute to placing controls on the use of water, and address the current problems that lead to scarcity of water in most areas around the world.

The speech by the UAE Parliamentary Division will also address the UAE’s efforts to implement the sustainable development goals, which aim to provide clean drinkable water to those affected, as well as the country’s role in overcoming the various obstacles and presenting solutions to affected areas, through the comprehensive management of water resources, water desalination, renewable energy and successful strategies to reuse water, as well as to improve water production, solve water security issues, and linking of the water and energy sectors.
