ERC delivers tugboat Al Mukalla port

AL MUKALLA, — The Emirates Red Crescent Authority, ERC, has delivered a new tugboat to the Yemeni port of Al Mukalla, as per the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to provide continuous support to the people of Yemen.

The ceremony to mark the delivery of the boat was attended by Major General Ahmed Saeed bin Braik, Governor of Hadramout, Fouad Tayseer Al Rabaki, Deputy Chairman of Yemen Arabian Sea Corporation, and Khalifa Al Neyadi, Deputy Head of the Emirati Relief Team in Hadramout.

The Governor of Hadramout thanked the UAE and the ERC for the support, and said the tugboat would contribute to upgrading capacity and efficiency of the Al Mukalla Port, and enable it to handle the increase in vessel traffic.

Matar Al Ketbi, Head of the Emirati Relief Team in Hadramout, said the port of Al Mukalla faced difficulties during the past years, with only one-single-engine tugboat offering towing services to the different vessels that called on the port.

A proper training will be provided to the tugboat crew on operation systems and other technical aspects, he added.

Built in 2007, the 199-tonne new tugboat is 31 metres long, 9.5 metres wide, with a draft of 3.05 metres, and a 350 HP propeller.
