Emirates Volunteer Conference to discuss best global practices on governance, transparency

ABU DHABI, — Voluntary work leaders, humanitarian actors, ministers, intellectuals, cultural personalities, and representatives of 50 governmental and non-governmental organisations will gather in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, 12th March, for the 9th Emirates Volunteer Conference, where they will share their experiences and experiments and discuss means to develop humanitarian and voluntary works.

Delegates will also explore methods to apply best international practices on governance and transparency to voluntary programmes.

The conference aims to promote the culture of giving, humanitarian and voluntary work, and build public-private partnerships to adopt and support sustainable initiatives that will advance social and economic development consistent with the Year of Giving in 2017, as declared by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The conference is organised by the Zayed Giving Initiative (ZGI) in collaboration with the Arab Union for Voluntary Work, Arab Society for Social Responsibility and Arab Foundation for Humanitarian Work.

Dr. Adel Al Shammeri, CEO of ZGI, said the humanitarian and voluntary programmes and projects by ZGI, since its launch in 2000, will be reviewed during the conference.

”We are proud that our volunteers have achieved five million hours of volunteering work,” he noted.

”The leadership and the people of the UAE consider humanitarian and voluntary work, as well as community-driven initiatives, among their top priorities,” he stated.

Winners of the Emirates Volunteer Award will be honoured during the opening session of the conference.
