Arab Parliament honours Sheikha Fatima for empowering Emirati and Arab women

ABU DHABI, — The Arab Parliament presented its Order of First Class to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, in recognition of her tireless efforts towards the empowerment of Emirati and Arab women.

H.H. Sheikha Fatima has been recognised locally, regionally and internationally for her significant role in advancing causes of women, and her contributions to integrating women as key partners in the development of their communities and in supporting local, Arab and international humanitarian initiatives, President of the Arab Parliament Ahmed Mohammed Al Jarwan said in an address to the audience, read on his behalf by his deputy Samia Hassan Ahmed.

”Sheikha Fatima (The Mother of the Nation) remains a role model for women in the Arab world and beyond, in areas of generosity, humanitarian work and defence of women’s rights. She is a beacon of success and excellence,” Al Jarwan said.

Emirati women have remarkable achievements thanks to H.H. Sheikha Fatima’s support, and the encouragement of the UAE leadership, Al Jarwan noted.

He also commended H.H. Sheikha Fatima’s recent directives for supporting and comforting families of Emirati servicemen who have fallen during the war in Yemen.

The award ceremony was attended by Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region; Sheikha Al Yaziyah bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikha Aysha bint Suhail Al Ketbi; Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance; Dr. Maytha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State; Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GWU; Sara Shuhail, CEO of Ewa’a Shelters, a number of women members of the Arab Parliament and Federal National Council.
